Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Claim Trophee des Champions Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a fourth straight French Super Cup title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match featuring the French league champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to send the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
