World Series Game 7 Captures 51M Audience Members In the United States, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The thrilling extra-inning contest that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 drew a total over 50 million viewers across the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB announced this marks the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday memorable game secured over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, Fox Deportes and Fox’s digital services. According to ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated World Series game since the 2017 final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a 16% improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, Game 4 was seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and Game 3 landed in thirteenth place.

International Audience Figures

In the Canadian market, the game averaged 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports. This was the most-watched English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the deciding game began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – recorded 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a single network in the country.

Overall Averages and Trends

The full seven-game World Series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% rise from last year’s Dodgers-Yankees series. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded viewership increases for two straight seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on Univision, the total US average reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels averaged over 8 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance since the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 nations and regions by 44 broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
